Mix that with officer encounter lines and ally compliments every 100 KOs and you can see how this can easily build up, particularly if you’re playing on easy and you’re getting 300 KOs and 3 officers every minute. A typical “officer defeated” sequence is as follows: a line from the defeated officer, the usual “enemy officer defeated” line from the player, and a compliment from an ally. A drawback of this is that the dialogue backlog can easily build up and affect the outcome of certain missions according to time (including waiting for gates to open or things to happen).

This PC port seems to have a lot more enemies in the battlefield compared to the PS2 games or maybe even the PS3 port, so in many battles, you may find yourself getting 1000 KOs more times than you may think (but not so much compared to DW8, graphics and mechanics weren’t that advanced back then). Some characters’ movesets are less than efficient at dealing with enemies as you might get interrupted by enemies while attacking or your path misses because you’re attacking too fast (which is the case particularly in Nobunaga Oda and Yoshimoto Imagawa’s Musou attacks). The gameplay is pretty much the same as other Warriors games, so I won’t comment on it too much. The original content of this game was included in the Western and Asian PSP ports for Warriors Orochi 2, released in August 2009. It was originally intended to be localised and released in the West as Warriors Orochi: The Collective, but soon after, Koei Tecmo decided to cancel the localisation (the first of many mistakes that led to my opinion of them now), even though the process would have been easy in retrospect as the assets (including the English voices) were already there. This game was released in Japan for the PS3 in March 2009 and on PC in November 2009. With this, however, character progress is centralised so that the need for this “double-grinding” is eliminated. This means that when you got the sequel, you essentially had to grind the characters from scratch. The games were released for the PS2 back in the day, so data couldn’t be transferred between games as easily as you could today. The cutscene visuals lagged a bit in comparison with the audios, but everything else was fine if I made the settings good enough for it to run on my decade-old computer.Īside from nostalgia, a factor that contributed to me deciding to play this game was the fact that this game combined the first two Warriors Orochi titles with some extra original content.

A few weeks ago, during the first or second week of the coronavirus lockdown in Australia, I finally caved and decided to play it on my Windows 7 desktop, since it was the only computer that this game seemed to work on for me.

During this time, I’ve struggled to decide whether I should play this game or not and every time I did, I found that the game wouldn’t run on my Windows 10 laptop, so I gave up. Over the past few months, I’ve had a guilty pleasure of playing older Warriors games for nostalgia and as a reminder of how far Koei Tecmo has fallen over the past decade (coincidentally, since the two companies merged).
